Got my first kit for my tenth birthday. From
that day on I was hooked. Through the years I was in many a
cover band. Unfortunately none of them managed to get further
than the rehearsal room. Well, that's how it goes.
While I was studying, I was the drummer for
the Ritmic Group in Schinveld. Alongside of that I kept on playing
in lots of bands. After I finished my study, I went on tour
with 'Up With People'. After the tour I knew for certain that
I liked the musician's life and I started playing as often as
I could. Somewhere along the way I discovered the blues with
bottleneck player Rolf Heinemann at the tender age of 26 which
I think is quite young for the blues.
Although my musical taste is broad, my favourites
tend to differ from time to time. In any case I have a strong
preference for singer/songwriters as James Taylor. Also, I listen
a lot to Americana and Country. This is also evident in my drummer
influences; Jim Keltner, Russ Kunkel, Steve Jordan and especially
Steve Gadd. All of them groove-oriented drummers who think creating
an atmosphere, intensity and dosage are more important than
technical wizardry on a drum kit.
To round off, the obligatory equipment list.
I know, musicians just can't help talking about their favourite
'stuff' and brands. So here goes…
- DW Collector's Series drums
- Craviotto solid snares
- Istanbul Agop cymbals
