Band biography
The Beale Street Blues and Roll
Band was founded in Geleen at the beginning of 2004. At the core
of the band were Scottish vocalist Brian Peters and axe man Lei
Stevelmans, who at the time had already been active on the Blues
scene for several years. Leon Geelen (backing vocals and rhythm
guitar), Marc Minoli (bass guitar) and Ronald Jeurissen (drums)
completed the line-up.
The band managed more than 125 gigs in the original line-up.
Spring 2009 Jef replaced Lei. September 2009 Beale Street will
have been performing for 5 years.
Beale Street performed at festivals such as Urpop, Baeker Blues
Side festival, Bibberblues, Blues Tour Cuijk, Marsna Rhythm an
many more. Their repertoire ranges from Blues Classics by the
likes of Muddy Waters and Willie Dixon to the more contemporary
Blues of, for instance, Rory Gallagher or the heavier rock-based
blues of Poppa Chubby.
When Beale Street cover other artists, the original song is
always the starting point. However, the band adapt the track to
their own style. Thus avoiding creating an exact copy. The share
of original material is expanding and has been incorporated into
the already varied repertoire.
Short and sweet the band have named their own style Blues &
Roll: 'Blues, with a bit more Roll than
Rock'.
